Enrique López-Izquierdo was the architect who designed the original Arlequín Theater. The Arlequín, like the Bellas Artes and the Príncipe, was constructed beneath the street level and is situated on the Gran Vía. In 1999, it resumed its theatrical operations following a period of operation as a cinema. Afterward, the theater underwent ownership changes and subsequently reopened and closed until Arco Mediterráneo Proartis assumed responsibility for its operations. In honor of Fellini's film, the theater altered its name to La Strada. Nevertheless, it reverted to the name "Arlequín Gran Vía" in mid-April 2014.
